How this site makes money

Japan Starter Kit is free to read. It's funded by affiliate links: when a guide recommends a service and you sign up through our link, the company pays us a commission. You never pay more. Sometimes you pay less.

The rules we hold ourselves to

• Every guide containing affiliate links is labeled PR・広告 at the top, before any link appears, as required by Japan's 景品表示法 (stealth-marketing regulation) and the US FTC's disclosure rules.
• We recommend what we'd tell a friend, including when it pays us nothing. Our switching guides regularly point away from services that pay us.
• First-hand experience is labeled as such. When we haven't used a service ourselves, the guide says so plainly.
• Commissions never decide rankings. Where a paying option and a non-paying option compete, we say which is better and why.

Who we work with
